The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has directed police officers across the country to take decisive action against individuals found in unlawful possession of firearms during a security stakeholders’ meeting held in Abuja.
Speaking at the meeting, the IGP expressed concern over the worsening security situation in parts of the country, warning that continued criminal activities could undermine Nigeria’s security architecture and endanger the lives and property of citizens.
He stressed the need for law enforcement officers to intensify efforts in combating violent crimes and maintaining public safety. According to the IGP, the police will not allow criminal elements to threaten the peace and stability of the nation under his leadership.
Disu, stated that officers nationwide have been directed to confront armed suspects found in illegal possession of firearms in accordance with the law and the Nigeria Police Force’s operational rules of engagement. He emphasized that the Force remains committed to protecting lives and property while tackling insecurity across the country.
The directive has generated reactions from members of the public, with many calling for strict compliance with the rule of law and respect for human rights during security operations.
