From Princely Onyenwe
All is set for Imo State House of Assembly to resume plenary monday 26-06-2023, few days after Speaker Olemgbe adjourned sitting on 16-06-2023 to a later date.
We have reported that the principal officers are expected to be completed at this sitting by the Honourable Members, pointing at Rt. Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi to likely retain his seat as the Majority Leader of the 10th House.
However, history may repeat itself again in Imo State House of Assembly since the inception of the modern democracy in 1919 as Rt Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi is likely going to be the Second Majority Leader to get the said seat consecutively twice.
Investigations carried out revealed that aside late Hon. Standford Onyirimba who became the Majority Leader of the prestigious Imo House of Assembly Majority Leader consecutively twice during the time of Former Governor of Imo State, Chief Dr. Achike Udenwa led administration from 1999 to 2007, no other Member has served twice let alone consecutively or ( Back to Back).
In 2007, which was the tenure of Chief Ikedi Ohakim as Governor, late Hon Mrs Ukachi was the Majority Leader and Ohakim did only one term and handed over to Rochas Okorocha who had two Majority leaders under him.
They included Hon Adaku Ihuoma of Aboh mbaise and Hon Lugard Osuji of Owerri Municipal. While Ihuoma served as Majority leader in Okorocha’s first term, Lugard Osuji served in the second term and handed over to Uzodinma.
Under Uzodinma, Rt Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi, member representing Owerri West has been on the saddle until few days ago, the 9th House came to an end.
However if information to our correspodent is anything to go by, same Onyemaechi would retain his position as Majority Leader in the 10th Assembly and then be included as another member to serve in the said capacity.
Recall that our correspodent had before the inauguration of the 10th Imo Assembly predicted that a first Timer would emerge the Speaker of 10th House of Assembly and it came to pass.
In the said report, Our correspodent further hinted that Rt Hon Chyna Iwuanyanwu, the member representing Nwangele State Constituency would retain his Deputy Speakership and it happened as predicted.
We also predicted after it’s investigation that Onyemaechi, member representing Owerri West State Constituency as well as Hon Gozie Nwaneri, member representing Oru East State Constituency would likely retain their Principal Positions as Majority Leader and Chief Whip of the 10th Assembly respectively.
As the House of Assembly sits Tuesday June 27th to discuss amongst other things as well as to elect the remaining leadership seats, We expects its prediction to work again.
Our source from Government House revealed that the trio of Rt Hon Iwuanyanwu, Onyemaechi and Nwaneri played a major role in ensuring the perceived harmony or cordial relationship between the Executive and the 9th House which invariably helped Hope Uzodinma in achieving more for Imo people.
The source added that the combination of capable officers will definitely help the Governor to achieve more for the State hence the plans to return the trio.
To this effect, there are alot in the expectations by Imolites on what the 10th State Assembly will actually dish out as the house resumes officially with a full blown principal officers and members.
The officers to elected Tuesday are the majority Leader, deputy majority Leader, minority Leader, deputy minority Leader, Chief Whip and deputy chief Whip.
