Leaders from the Okigwe and Owerri zones have come together to form a united front ahead of the 2027 governorship elections in Imo state.
The landmark meeting, held on April 15, 2025, at the Obowo country home of political leader and former gubernatorial aspirant, Ike C. Ibe, brought together over one hundred prominent leaders from both zones.
The gathering was convened under the aegis of the Okigwe First Movement (OFM) and the Imo Harmony Project (IHP), signaling a major step toward regional collaboration in pursuit of equity and inclusion in the state’s highest office.

Barrister CY Anyanwu, President-General of Ezumezu Mbaise, represented IHP leader, Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho.
He delivered a passionate address highlighting the historic marginalization of both Okigwe and Owerri in the governorship seat and emphasized the urgent need for unity.
“The time has come for Okigwe and Owerri to speak with one voice,” he said.
Other prominent leaders from Owerri who spoke in support of the alliance include Dr. Shay Okorie, Chief Charlie Onu, Mr. Nick Oparandudu, Chief Henry Onwukwe, Lady Chiaka Ugwuoji, and Chief Chris Njoku, among others.
On the Okigwe side, OFM leader, Sir George Eguh warmly welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the need for a collaborative effort to bring power back to the two historically sidelined zones after over two decades of Orlu dominance.
He reiterated Okigwe’s unwavering support for Governor Hope Uzodinma’s administration, while also advocating for a fair power rotation in 2027.
Chief Stanley Nzekwe traced the formation of the Okigwe First Movement, clarifying that its primary objective remains the advancement of Okigwe’s collective interest, not the ambitions of a few.
In his remarks, host Ike C. Ibe announced the creation of a joint Integration Committee, comprising representatives from both zones, tasked with examining the charter of equity and harmonizing the aspirations of both regions ahead of the 2027 elections.
For the first time in decades, Okigwe and Owerri appear poised to work together toward securing the governorship seat and correcting a historical imbalance.
