By Ogu Bundu Nwadike, M.A
Having observed and assessed the increasing violent attacks and counter-attacks between supposed leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State for some time now, the organized opposition sees great reason to charge them to stop heating up the polity and spare Imo people the tension that they have continued to mount in the State for some time now.
It has been noted that on many fronts – political, social and economic – the APC has been making Imo State too tensive with their uncivil and undemocratic approaches to issues of leadership and governance. That has made the organized opposition, among other things, underscore the APC v APC public hostilities as evidence of the illegitimacy and unpopularity of APC in Imo State, following the still contentious and controversial way and manner the Party ascended the governorship seat in the State.
It’s reasoned that for some time now the trio of Senator Hope Uzodinma, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and Senator Rochas Okorocha, all of the APC, have for their respective reasons conducted themselves in ways that send wrong signals to Imo people that instead of providing leadership and governance in the State, all they are focused on is endless power-mongering skirmishes.
We noted that for their activities, actions and inactions, none of the three geo-political zones of the State enjoys genuine peace any longer.
Indeed, it’s too ironical that supposed leaders of the party in power are embroiled in profuse bickering and bantering that send a mixture of cold and hot shivers to the spines of the ordinary people, playing big opposition to itself.
Organized opposition can confidently argue that the root of the altercations, that leave ample negative consequences in the State, is the despotic tendencies of the key dramatis-personae that manifest in their wanton display of gross lawlessness and impunity in the political stratosphere.
We, therefore, aver that the APC has steadily turned Imo State into a theatre of war of peculiar sorts, which has even seen men of the Nigeria Police and the Nigerian armed forces embarking on a massive air and land show of force in Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency supposedly against a group that has been introduced as Eastern Security Network (ESN).
And most recently, Senator Rochas Okorocha of the APC, a serving Senator of the Federal Republic, was profiled in a severe, near-fatal direct physical brawl with aides and agents of Governor Hope Uzodinma of the APC over a mutual display of lawlessness and impunity.
The two APC chieftains have been striving to accomplish the impossible of getting a right out of their mutual two wrongs.
However, while Ndimo may not be interested in situating the reasons for the show of shame by these so-called leaders of APC, they must be very much concerned about the negative consequences of their brouhaha on Imo people, the society, and the economy of the State.
Therefore, this should serve as a call to order on the party, APC, and their querulous chieftains, since Imolites cannot afford to sit and watch the APC power-mongering gladiators set our dear State on an avoidable fire, causing frazzled sensibilities and opprobrium to the people.
Conclusively, well-meaning Imolites must demand that APC must stop washing their dirty linen in the glare of the public. That’s because their dirty conducts bring tonnes of shame on Imo State and Imo people.
And where they are no longer capable of providing desired leadership and governance to Imo people, without rancour and acrimony, then they should do the most honourable needful and resign.
By God’s grace, Imo State must be rebuilt!!
