The Majority Leader Imo House of Assembly IMHA, Rt Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi (Egbe) has extoled the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) for conducting a successful local government election in the state.
Onyemaechi made this statement at the floor of the house IMHA on Tuesday plenary when the Deputy speaker Rt Honourable Amara Iwuanyanwu presented a motion concerning the huge success recorded at the just concluded Imo local government elections in the state.
Recall that the election was conducted across the twenty seven (27) local government Areas and the three hundred and five (305) wards in Imo state on Saturday 21st September, 2024.
The house members further congratulated the election umpire ISIEC for the successful election that gave the rulling All Progressives Congress APC party landslide winning across wards and LGAs. IMHA also commended the ISIEC chairman, Chief Charles Ejiogu, law enforcement agents, and the political parties for a huge success recorded.
It was the abatement of banditry and insecurity in the state by the concerted efforts of the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Hope Uzodinma CON, that made the state conducive for the LG Election to be held . IMHA members however thanked Governor Uzodinma for providing a safe environment for the LG Election.
It was by the implementation of the local government autonomy granted by the Federal Government FG under His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR that Imo state keyed in to conduct the LG Election successfully.
This bill was Chiefly sponsored by Rt Hon Amara Iwuanyanwu and co-sponsored by six (6) other Honourables which Included, Kanayo Onyemaechi, Chigozie Nwaneri, Samuel Osuji, Ozioma Ebonine Worship, James Uba Esile and innocent Ikpamazie respectively.
On the contrary, majority of Imolites interviewed by 9News Nigeria correspondents during and after the LG election told us that Imo APC swept the polls and did the election in their usual way-27/27: 305/305. They frowned at the process that produced the Chairmen and Councillors across the twenty seven LGAs.
Summarily, member representing Owerri West and the Majority Leader IMHA Rt Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi added that the LG Election has ended up the era of Transition Chairmen ( TC) and Sole administrators (SOLADs) in Imo and produced Elected chairmen and ward Councillors.
