The Imo state police command has embarked on a serious sensitisation patrol across the state. The patrol started few days after the commencement of #hunger protest across the country.

The awareness is tagged “Confidence- Building Patrol and Operation Show-Of-Force” going on across all the locations in the state this Friday afternoon.

Speaking to Newsmen in Owerri, the state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, through the command’s Spokesman, Henry Okoye, said the command, in synergy with the heads of other security agencies are out for confidence-building patrol and operation show-of-force across the lengths and breadth of the state.

He said, “no protest of any kind is ongoing in the state. Monitoring continues. The State is relatively calm and peaceful, Imolites are going about their lawful businesses.

The action is Inline with the policy of government to provide maximum security to all Imolites mostly at this pressing times when insecurity is high across states.

9News reports that , eve to the proposed hunger protest , there was sporadic gun shutting in the municipality that scared Imolites away and raised further apprehension.

But from investigation, our reporter gathered that the shootings in Owerri municipality was a ploy to chase hoodlums away and restore confidence to the people that Imo is safe.

A government source told our correspondent that zones like Orlu and Okigwe are very sensitive to handle because of the threatening conditions of Insecurity in the area but Owerri is safe.

On this sensitization therefore, normal commercial activities seem to have returned in Imo state after residents stayed away from the nationwide hunger protest on Thursday.

Although the protest was meant to continue today Friday but owing to the level of complacency witnessed on Thursday on the side of the youths, residents beat all odds to continue their daily activities, with major markets, banks, schools, eateries, hotels and so on, bustling as usual.

The Imo police spokesperson however urged the good people of Imo State to be security conscious and report any suspicious movement or activity within their vicinity to the nearest Police Station or via the following lines 08034773600 or 08148024755”
