Imo state Hon. commissioner for Youths, Sports and Social Development Dan Chike Ogu has concluded his official facility tour of the assessment of the state of Stadia in the state, stating that its present conditions are worrisome.

This statement was made earlier in Okigwe township stadium before the press stating that Governor Hope Uzodinma has come to work for Imo state and improve sporting activities.

Meanwhile Imo State Governor, Sen. Hope Uzodinma has approved the re-commencement of renovation work at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri beginning from Friday, September 18, 2020.

Ogu who had led the executive officers of both the Imo State Sports Commission and Ministry of Sports staff on a tour of facilities round the state, said the Dan Anyiam Stadium would be ready for use by the end of October 2020.

In his words, “We have seen that there’s a lot of work to be done in all the stadia and we are starting particularly at Dan Anyiam Stadium tomorrow. Honestly, there’s no time to talk rather, we have to start work immediately,”he said

” We’ve discussed with the contractor and our hope is that he will deliver the stadium ready for use by the end of October this year as agreed,” Ogu added.

The commissioner said there was no need to continue lamentations on the deterioration of sports facilities in the state instead, the government led by Sen. Uzodinma prefers to tackle the problems he met on ground.

The Okigwe Township Stadium was the last to be inspected by the commissioner and his entourage having gone through Dan Anyiam Stadium, Sam Okwaraji Stadium and Orlu New Stadium the previous weeks.

“What we saw or met on ground at those places are nothing to write home about but we are not going to dwell on that for now. The athletes and football players need a stadium immediately to begin their own programmes so we must facilitate that,” he explained.

The Sam Okwaraji Stadium in Orlu was in the worst shape among all the visited stadia as there was serious dilapidation and encroachment by some private business owners.

However, the commissioner armed with a detailed report of findings from the tour, would be approaching the state executive council to take far reaching decisions against the deterioration and abuse of order domiciled at these stadia.Imo is indeed working.
