The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will release official Access Codes to political parties on June 26, 2026, to facilitate the upload of details of candidates who emerged from the recently concluded party primaries.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Tuesday during a meeting with the national leadership of political parties in Abuja.
According to him, the Access Codes will enable political parties to submit the names and particulars of their nominated candidates through the commission’s designated portal as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Amupitan, however, expressed concern over what he described as the growing rate of intra-party litigations across various political parties.
He noted that disputes arising from party leadership and primary election processes have become a major distraction to the commission’s efforts to focus on organizing a credible and successful election in 2027.
The INEC chairman urged political parties to strengthen their internal dispute resolution mechanisms and adhere strictly to established electoral guidelines.
He stressed that compliance with electoral regulations by all stakeholders would play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process.
Amupitan further emphasized that the success of the 2027 general elections depends largely on the commitment of political parties and other stakeholders to uphold democratic principles and the rule of law.
The commission reaffirmed its readiness to work with all political actors to deliver free, fair and credible elections across the country.
