2025 MINISTERIAL PRESS BRIEFING SERIES BY HM MOHAMMED IDRIS
The Honorable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, fnipr, On Friday February 21, 2025, hosted the second edition of the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing Series, at the National Press Center, Radio House, Abuja.
The edition featured the Ministers of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar, and Regional Development, Mr. Abubakar Eshiokpekha Momoh, alongside the Minister of State Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari Ahmadu.

MINISTRY OF LIVESTOCK DEVELOPMENT (created by President Tinubu in July 2024):
- In November 2024, JBS, the largest meat processing company in the world, signed an MOU with the Federal Government of Nigeria for the investment of $2.5B in Nigeria’s poultry, beef and pork value-chains.
- Nigeria’s livestock sector is currently valued at 33 Trillion Naira. The new Ministry of Livestock Development has a target to double the sector’s contribution to GDP, to 10 percent.
- Nigeria has 417 gazetted and ungazetted grazing reserves, covering over 5 million hectares of land. These reserves will be turned into economic hubs for dairy processing, beef production, commercial pasture growing, and hides and skin.
- Nigeria’s cows currently produce only about two liters of milk per day. The target of the new Ministry of Livestock Development is to take this closer to the global average, which is 30 to 40 liters per cow, daily. For the bulls, the target is to ensure that they weigh 600kg when they’re ready for slaughter at 30 months old.
- The new Ministry of Livestock Development has digitized all the cattle routes in Nigeria, and is also now creating a Gene Bank to store all of Nigeria’s indigenous livestock genetics
- In the fulfilment of its mandate, the new Ministry of Livestock Development is forging partnerships with various countries including USA, France, UK, Morocco, China, Brazil, and Mexico
MINISTRY OF REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
- New Ministry created in October 2024 from the old Ministry of Niger Delta, with an expanded mandate to oversee all of Nigeria’s Regional Development Commissions.
- In line with its commitment to complete all inherited road projects in the region, the Ministry has completed:
a. Construction of Gberegolor-Ogriagbene Road in Delta
b. Rehabilitation of Okpuala-Iguruta Road Phase 1 in Imo.
c. Construction of Oron Road (Phase 1) in Edo
d. Construction of Okwu Ikeduru-Ogwuama Road with link bridge in Mbaise, Imo State
e. 8 major road construction projects have also been earmarked in 2025. - Five mini-water schemes have been implemented to provide potable water to some communities in the region – Ogunu in Delta, Owerri in Imo, Ndiya in Akwa Ibom, Afia Nsit Atai in Akwa Ibom and Oguta in Imo.
- Seven 500KVA and one 2.5mVA transformers have been provided and installed to boost power supply in some rural communities of the region.
- NDDC also commissioned a 132KV Transmission line and Substation in Okitipupa, Ondo State, restoring light to the benefitting communities of 5 LGAs after 15 years.
- Plans are in top gear for the establishment of the proposed Niger Delta Ferry Transportation with the awarding of its design contract. The construction of jetty in Ilaje/Ese Odo LGA of Ondo State is progressing and will be completed in due time.
- Two of the 9 mega skill acquisition centres across the 9 states of the region have been completed, others are at various stages of completion.
- The Ministry has embarked and completed a number of quick-win projects that were completed in a short period of time, they include the construction of ICT centre in Akwa Ibom, construction of 20-bed Maternal Health Care Centre in Akwa Ibom, construction of blocks of classrooms in Cross River and Imo States, construction of Health Centre in Imo state. 14 others are at various stages of completion.
