Troops of the Nigerian military in collaboration with the air component of Operation Fansan Yamma and Operation Farautar Mujiya have intensified ground attacks on the Lakurawa in Kebbi and Sokoto states.
The terrorists are now retreating towards Borgu, a “strategic area near the Nigeria-Benin border”, due to incessant bombardment from the military.
The coordinated air and ground attacks are targeted at Lakurawa camps in the two states, leading to the seizure of livestock, a vital revenue stream for the group.
“Known for its remote terrain and access to cross-border livestock and grain markets, Borgu has historically provided cover for the group’s operations and trade-based income sources,”
