Jealous wife murders husband with pestle in Niger, dumps body in bush

A terrible and disturbing incident occurred in Lafiyagi Dzwafu village, Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State, where 27- year-old Fatima Dzuma allegedly killed her husband, Baba Aliyu, 25, while he was asleep.

The tragedy happened just before the scheduled naming ceremony of Aliyu’s first wife’s new born baby.

Fatima, who had been in the marriage for three years without a child, reportedly tied her husband’s hands as he slept and fatally struck his head with pestle.

After the act, she wrapped his body in a mat and dumped it in a nearby bush within the compound.

Aliyu sudden disappearance raise concerns during preparations for the child’s naming ceremony the next day.

When confronted by the family members, Fatima initially denied knowing his whereabouts.

Three days later, however, she confessed to the crime and was arrested.

During the police questioning, Fatima revealed that she had been enduring prolonged physical abuse from her husband.

She claimed that on the night of the incident, Aliyu had physically assaulted her before leaving the house, which led her to carryout the attack.

“I tied his neck with a scarf while he was deeply asleep and unable to resist. I then struck him with a pestle three times – twice on the head and once on his hand”, Fatima told the police.

The authorities have opened an investigation into the incident, with Fatima currently in police custody as legal proceedings begin.
