Journalism And Social Media Charlatans

Journalism and Social Media
Journalism and Social Media

-Evang Bright Eluagu

The existence of journalism in the world hemisphere has provided an environment friendly nature for the inhabitants of the mortal society.

It also gave impetus to vocal liberty and comfort, where members of the society freely ventilate their thoughts on issues of public concern.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, is the apex body that regulates the activities of every journalist in Nigeria.

The union has ethics guiding the profession, hence will never tolerate any act of miscondut or indiscipline from its members , no matter how highly placed.

It is important to state at this juncture that it is very rare to see a well trained journalist, publish lies and fiction as stories for public consumption.

A report worthy of public consumption, passes through rigorous journastic scrutiny by the editorial team, led by the editor-in-chief or deputy editor-in-chief as the case may be.

While in some cases, the news editor or production editor can equally perform such role, hence, any news published under the indepth supervision of the abovementioned journalism pundits, cannot be viewed to have failed professional test.

Therefore, it is proper to opine that only halfbaked journalists throw caution to the wind in the discharge of his duties, in the various media platforms.

But looking vividly and explicitly on the uncensored posts made by some users of the mobile network, any good observer will attest to the fact that some of bloggers concoct falsehood in a bid to get at their perceived enemies. They ‘lift’ unedited stories from unconfirmed sources, just to create the impression of an uneasy calm in the society and take advantage of such environment to achieve selfish interest.

The activities of these social media charlatans have caused more harm then good to societal development, hence, the need for its close regulation.
Some of these intellectually bankrupt users of social media should know that journalism has standard.
