All is set for this year’s edition of Ahmadu Musa Kida (AMK) Basketball Foundation which commences today at the Bayero University Kano, Old Site Basketball Arena. T
he event will hold from Monday, 16th of November to Saturday, 21st of November.
According to the format agreed during the official draws and pre-match meeting and made available to 9News Nigeria, the group stage games will be played in a round-robin format with the best two teams from each group qualifying for the semi-finals.
The competition will feature eight teams divided into two groups. Group A has Kabuga Warriors, Bukavu Blinks, Tudun Wada Warriors and Kofarmata Dragons while Eleventors, Ahmadiyyah College, M.T.M Thunders and Paki Warriors will battle for the two automatic tickets in Group B.
The sponsor of the competition who is also the President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engr Musa Kida, said the tournament is part of his contribution to basketball development in the North West.
He said, “My foundation has over the years embarked on using basketball as a tool to reach out to Nigerian youths in the six geo-political zones of Nigeria. We have organized competitions among Universities, full court style of basketball amongst amateur teams in the zones as well as being the pioneer of 3×3 basketball format in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.”
“We had many programmes lined up for this year which we were to organize with but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we could not hold these events. We are excited that we have been able to finalise the necessary details and give teams and players in the North West an opportunity to play basketball and showcase their talents.”
The NBBF boss assured that the event will be held in strict adherence to the covid-19 guidelines as directed by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
