Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has praised the recent meeting between President Bola Tinubu and members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), describing it as a sincere discussion about the country’s challenges.
In a viral video, the senator representing Abia North said the Catholic bishops remain the conscience of the nation, adding that their advice is always given in Nigeria’s best interest rather than for political reasons.
Kalu admitted that Nigerians are facing economic hardship and insecurity. However, he argued that President Tinubu should not be blamed alone for the country’s current problems.
The former Abia State governor said the meeting was significant because the bishops presented the realities on the ground without political bias.
He also claimed that politicians often fail to give the President an accurate picture of events across the country, unlike the bishops, who spoke honestly about the situation.
According to Kalu, such open conversations would motivate the President to intensify efforts to tackle the nation’s economic and security challenges.
His comments followed the bishops’ visit to the Presidential Villa, where they expressed concerns over the economy, insecurity and Nigeria’s political climate. After the meeting, Cardinal John Onaiyekan said President Tinubu disagreed with the bishops’ assessment and insisted his administration was on the right path.
