Rabiu Kwankwaso, vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has welcomed a group of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the NDC and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
Among the new members is Danlami Zakari Unguwar Gertai, popularly known as Garkuwan Gari, from Gari Local Government Area of Kano State.
He joined the party alongside several of his supporters during the defection ceremony.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement announced the development on Sunday through its official social media platforms.
According to the movement, the delegation was received at Kwankwaso’s residence on Miller Road in Kano.
It said the defectors pledged their loyalty and commitment to the ideals of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and its vision for a better Nigeria.
The defection came less than 24 hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) published the credentials and personal details of Kwankwaso and NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso and Obi were presidential candidates in the 2023 elections under different political parties before later joining the APC and subsequently moving to the NDC, citing internal crises and prolonged legal disputes within the ruling party.
