The Leader of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi, has congratulated the former member of the House of Representatives and Federal Commissioner representing Imo State at the Federal Character Commission, Rt. Hon. Asiwaju Jerry Alagbaoso, on his installation as the traditional ruler of Ama Na Ogu Autonomous Community in Ihitenansa Clan, Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.
Onyemaechi, who described Alagbaoso as an accomplished leader, distinguished public servant and illustrious son of Orsu, said the emergence of the former federal lawmaker as the traditional ruler of his ancestral community was a fitting recognition of his years of service, leadership and contributions to public life.
The House Leader expressed particular delight over the development, noting the cordial and longstanding relationship between him and the newly installed monarch. Onyemaechi disclosed that he had previously served as Chief of Staff to Alagbaoso during his tenure as a member of the House of Representatives, an experience that has contributed to the enduring relationship between the two leaders. The official profile of the Imo State House of Assembly also confirms Onyemaechi’s previous appointment as Chief of Staff to Alagbaoso.
According to Onyemaechi, Alagbaoso’s transition from an accomplished career in public service and legislative representation to traditional leadership presents an opportunity for him to bring his wealth of experience, wisdom and commitment to community development to bear on the affairs of Ama Na Ogu.
He described the choice of Alagbaoso as the traditional ruler as a visionary decision by the people, saying his record as a retired Nigeria Customs Service Comptroller, three-term member of the House of Representatives and Federal Commissioner at the Federal Character Commission has prepared him for the responsibilities of traditional leadership. The Federal Character Commission currently identifies Alagbaoso as its Imo State Commissioner and records his three-term service in the House of Representatives and previous career as a Customs Comptroller.
Onyemaechi further commended the people of Ama Na Ogu Autonomous Community for choosing an individual he described as capable of providing quality, responsive, responsible and effective leadership at the traditional level.
The Imo Assembly Leader also expressed appreciation to the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers for its role in the process leading to the installation, while acknowledging Governor Hope Uzodimma for the state government’s approval that paved the way for the recognition and installation of the new traditional ruler.
He said the approval by the appropriate traditional institutions and the state government represented an important step toward strengthening legitimate traditional leadership and promoting peace, unity and development within the community.
The lawmaker urged the people of Ama Na Ogu to rally around their new monarch and support him in his efforts to foster peace, unity, progress and development, stressing that traditional institutions remain important pillars of community cohesion and grassroots leadership.
Onyemaechi prayed for wisdom, good health, longevity and a peaceful reign for Rt. Hon. Asiwaju Jerry Alagbaoso, now Ogu 1 of Ama Na Ogu Ihitenansa.
He said: “I heartily convey my warm greetings and congratulatory message to an accomplished leader and illustrious son of Orsu, Rt. Hon. Asiwaju Jerry Alagbaoso, on his well-deserved installation as the traditional ruler of Ama Na Ogu Autonomous Community, Ihitenansa Clan, Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.”
“May the King live long. May Eze Asiwaju’s reign be peaceful and prosperous. Amen.”
Onyemaechi currently serves as Leader of the 10th House, Imo State House of Assembly and represents Owerri West State Constituency.
