The Kano Hospitals Management Board has ordered an investigation into alleged negligence following the death of a patient, Aishatu Umar, at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre in Kano.
The probe which began on Tuesday was ordered by the Executive Secretary of Kano State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, amid rising public concerns over the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation followed claims by the deceased’s family that Umar’s condition deteriorated while she was receiving treatment at the facility.
The family further alleged that it was just two days before her death that comprehensive tests and scans were conducted, which reportedly revealed that a pair of surgical scissors had been left inside her body during the September operation.
They explained that arrangement were being made for corrective surgery after the discovery, but her condition deteriorated rapidly before the procedure could be carried out, leading to her death in the early hours of Tuesday.
In a statement issued in Tuesday, January 13, 2026, the Board expressed its condolences to the family of the late Aishatu Umar and assured the public that the matter would be treated with utmost seriousness.
The statement signed by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs Samira Suleiman, Dr. Nagoda directed an immediate and comprehensive investigation to determine what transpired at the Urology Centre.
Suleiman said the probe would review all medical and administrative procedures related to the case to ensure a fair and accurate assessment.
The Hospital Management Board reiterated that patient safety remains a top priority and reaffirmed it commitment to upholding high standards of healthcare delivery across all government health facilities in Kano State.
