American Music and fashion mogul Kanye West has once again sparked controversy, targeting the late designer Virgil Abloh and unnamed former collaborators he accuses of betrayal.
In a pointed message posted online, West praised Canadian rapper Drake as the “realest” among artists like Travis Scott.
“He’s not fake cool, he’s just talented as f**.” He said.
However, his message quickly turned combative as he called out those who, in his view, had worked under him, benefitted from his influence, and later turned against him.
“It’s f** Virgil and any of these other n***** that worked for me, then used me, then went against me.” West wrote.
He expressed feelings of deep resentment toward his late friend and longtime collaborator, Abloh.
Despite the criticism, West acknowledged his past admiration for Abloh, stating, “I love Virgil, and he used that very love to beat.”
The meaning behind this statement remains unclear, but it adds to West’s history of conflicting emotions regarding the designer, who passed away in 2021 after a long battle with cancer.
Meanwhile, in an unexpected shift, West also praised Nigerians, writing, “Nigerians are super smart”.
The latest comments have reignited discussions around West’s complex relationships in the fashion and music industries, particularly with Abloh, whom he once mentored before the designer became the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear division.
