Group CEO of NNPC Ltd, Mele Kyari, has unveiled an ambitious vision to tackle Nigeria’s energy trilemma— focusing on Nigeria’s energy security future, sustainability, and affordability. According to the chief communication officer Olufemi O Soneye, Kyari made this known at the 42nd Annual Conference of the Nigeria Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) in Lagos, Kyari outlined NNPC’s strategy, which includes plans to deliver 12 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) mother stations and mini LNG plants in the coming months to boost Nigeria’s 1.6 billion standard cubic feet per day gas supply.

Kyari reaffirmed NNPC Ltd’s commitment to expanding Nigeria’s energy infrastructure, including major projects like the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) and OB3 Gas Pipelines, to ensure sustainable and accessible energy. He also addressed ongoing partnerships with private refineries and new “Naira-for-crude” initiatives aimed at stabilizing the local currency and the foreign exchange market.

In his remarks, Kyari emphasized that NNPC is fully invested in advancing Nigeria’s refining capacity, both through direct expansion and collaboration with key stakeholders, to reduce reliance on imports. He firmly dismissed claims of undermining local refineries, noting NNPC’s stake in the Dangote Refinery as a strategic move to fortify domestic fuel supplies.

“Together, we can build a Nigeria where energy is secure, sustainable, and affordable for all,” Kyari stated, commending President Tinubu’s policies to support local production and economic diversification through bold, innovative energy solutions.
