The organized labour in Nigeria is demanding an upward review of the retirement age and service years of all public and civil servants from 60 years to 65 years and from 35 years to 40 years respectively.
This is part of the demands put forward by both the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, Comrades Now Ajaero and Festus Osifo during the May Day celebration held at the Eagle Square Abuja. While presenting some of the demands of the NLC, Ajaero said, It is imperative to extend the revised retirement age of 65 years or 40 years of service currently enjoyed by teachers, health professionals, and judges to all public servants. The organized labour also asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately revised what it describes as the unconstitutional suspension of the elected government of Rivers State via system of emergency. The President who was represented at the event, however, reaffirmed his administration’s c commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers.
