Internet fraudster whose real name is Victor Adedeji Oniyiku has been convicted and sentenced for internet fraud by the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.

The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC said it secured the conviction and sentencing of Victor Adedeji Oniyiku before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos for internet fraud.

9News Nigeria gathered that the culprit was found guilty of impersonating a white woman named Hartford Sarah Jane to carry out online fraud. The conviction was made by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Oniyiku pleaded guilty to the offense when he was arraigned in December 2023. The trial judge adjourned the case for the review of facts and judgment, which took place on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. The charge against him stated that he fraudulently impersonated Hartford Sarah Jane by using an Illinois driver’s license with the intent to gain an advantage for himself. This act is punishable under Section 22(2)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

During the review of facts, the prosecution counsel, Chinenye Okezie, presented the evidence and urged the court to convict and sentence Oniyiku accordingly. Justice Aneke subsequently convicted him and sentenced him to 12 months imprisonment. The judge also gave him the option to pay a fine of N500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) and ordered him to perform 100 hours of community service. Additionally, the devices recovered from Oniyiku were forfeited to the Federal Government.
