Lagos State is committed to prioritizing food security in order to reduce the cost of food commodities in the region, according to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The governor made this statement during the 2023 Lagos Food Festival, held at Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island. Represented by his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s dedication to boosting the agricultural sector.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the large turnout at the event, which he believed exemplified the true spirit of Lagos. He highlighted that the festival not only showcases prosperity, ingenuity, and innovation but also serves as a platform for young people to display their talents and network with others in the agriculture and food sector.

Lagos State has implemented various initiatives to support and promote the agricultural industry, which have been integrated into the THEMES Agenda of the state. These efforts aim to ensure food security and create opportunities for small and medium enterprises in the agricultural and food sectors.

The theme of the 2023 Lagos Food Festival, “A Fusion of Flavours,” reflects the diverse culinary traditions and rich culinary heritage of Lagos State. Through this event, participants have the opportunity to explore and appreciate the beauty of the state’s cuisine while also fostering economic growth within the local food industry.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the government will continue to prioritize food security as a means of addressing rising food prices and ensuring that residents have access to affordable and nutritious food. By supporting and empowering farmers, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and creating an enabling environment for agribusinesses, Lagos State aims to strengthen its food production capabilities and reduce dependency on imported food.

The 2023 Lagos Food Festival serves as a testament to Lagos State’s commitment to fostering a thriving agricultural sector and promoting food security. Through events like this, the state aims to celebrate its culinary diversity, support local businesses, and inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs in the food industry.
