Lalong Resigns As Labour Minister To Take Senate Seat

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Barrister Simon Bako Lalong, on Tuesday resigned from his position in order to take his seat as the Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District in the 10th Nigerian Senate.

The Minister’s Spokesperson, Makut Simon Machan, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday

Lalong expressed deep gratitude to the President for the honour and privilege of serving in his cabinet and for the personal support and guidance he gave him during his assignment as Minister.

Lalong, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared winner of the February 25 Senatorial election on November 7, by the Court of Appeal, which sacked Napoleon Bali, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Lalong who was the former Governor of Plateau State and Chairman, Northern Governor’s Forum (NGF) promised that while at the Senate, he will continue to give Mr President his loyal support and cooperation towards the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda and the success of APC in the relentless pursuit of a stronger, united and more prosperous Nigeria.

The out-going Minister will be sworn-in on Wednesday, 20th December 2023.
