Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, on Monday morning, started impeachment process against the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Consequently, the Assembly has directed the Clerk of the House to serve Governor Fubara with the impeachment notice.
The Assembly had earlier impeached the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Edison Ehie, a loyalist of the Governor to apparently pave the way for the impeachment proceedings against the governor.
Governor Fubara had also stormed the Assembly complex on Monday, where he addressed his supporters, saying he had not committed any impeachable offence to warrant the move against him.
The political crisis brewing in the Garden City State was a fallout of a soured relationship between the governor and his political godfather, who is the immediate-past governor of the state and now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The governor had while addressing his supporters in the state government House, said that he’s not afraid of impeachment but it must follow the due process.
Also, Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara cried out over how he was treated by Security agencies.
Speaking shortly after the Rivers State Assembly was burnt to ashes, Governor Fubara revealed that Security Operatives shot and fired teargas at him.
He, however, vowed to deal with “somebody” who is behind the attack.
Recall that Security Operative were on Monday captured pouring water and teargas on Governor of Rivers, Sim Fubara on his way to the State House of Assembly Complex.
In a video seen by 9NEWS NIGERIA, Governor Fubara’s supporters were seen lambasting the security operatives over their actions.
9News Nigeria had reported that the Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA) was last night October 29 set ablaze by suspected political thugs over the alleged move to impeach the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara and Leader of the House, Edison Ehie.
Some thugs in a white Hilux van invaded the assembly complex at about 9pm, disarmed the security personnel on duty and allegedly carried out the act.
It was learnt that the incident occurred at the assembly complex, opposite the Headquarters of the State Command Police, on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
It is alleged that the lawmakers had concluded plans to impeach Fubara and Ehie today October 30 at it resumed sitting following some undisclosed issues.
Over 17 security trucks and four Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) with over 50 federal security personnel have been stationed at the facility. There are rumors that there is a rift between the governor and his predecessor Nyesom Wike, who is now FCT Minister.
