Liverpool vs Tottenham – 9News Nigeria Preview

By Emmanuel Ebimoh

The last time Tottenham found victory at Anfield was on the penultimate weekend of the 2010/2011 season, when Rafael van der Vaart and Luka Modric gave the North London side a 2-0 victory over the Reds. But that was 8 years ago. Interestingly, Spurs have only won twice at Anfield in the Premier League in 27 attempts.

Liverpool have increasingly grown since Jurgen Klopp took over to be one of the most formidable sides in Europe. After winning the UEFA Champions League trophy last season, beating Tottenham 2-0 in the finals, the Reds have their eyes firmly set on the prestigious EPL trophy, a title that has eluded them for 29 long years.

Today, in what could determine the destinies of these two clubs this season, the Reds of Liverpool face the Lily Whites of Tottenham at Anfield.

Liverpool will understandably be strong favourites going into the game, considering the potency of their attack and their overall team performance lately, but it’s never a guarantee of victory against a Tottenham side hoping to bounce back from the dead.

If Liverpool aren’t at their best today, Spurs could capitalise, as they look to avenge their defeat in Madrid back in June.

However, should the Reds turn up to the party and defeat Tottenham, it will compound the woes of Mauricio Pochettino’s side, who have lost two and drew one in their last five games.

Liverpool’s only injury concerns will be defender, Joel Matip, who could still be missing for the game, and Xherdan Shaqiri also remaining side-lined.

Spurs will have the attacking trio of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, and Son Heung-Min fully fit for the match. Their biggest injury worry would be Hugo Lloris, who picked up a shoulder injury in their lost to Brighton three weeks ago.

No doubt, Anfield will be ready to entertain the best of English football when these two giants lock horns today. Who will take the day?
