Man arrested for allegedly killing mother for money ritual in Cross River

A tragic incident unfolded in Cross River State on Christmas Day 2024 as a 29-year-old man, Mathias Amunde, allegedly killed his mother, Justina Amunde, in a suspected ritual murder.

According to sources, Mathias allegedly shaved his mother’s hair after the murder, dumped her body in well, and fled the scene.

The gruesome act took place in Obudu Local Government Area, leaving the community in shock during the festive season.

The Police launched an investigation following the discovery of the body, leading to the arrest of Mathias Amunde.

He was reportedly tracked to a shrine he had taken his late mother’s hair for a suspected money ritual.

Upon arrival at the shrine, officers apprehended Mathias alongside the native doctor suspected of being involved in the ritual activities.

Both the suspect and the the native doctor are currently being detained at the Obudu Divisional Police Headquarters as Investigation continues.

The Cross River State Police Command has assured the public that justice will be served, urging residents to remain calm while the Investigation progresses.
