The crisis is over for now. The critics Jose Mourinho refers to as ‘Einsteins’ will have to think of something else.
For 25 first-half minutes today, Manchester United were sensational, a throwback to the days of Sir Alex Ferguson and Nemanja Vidic, who sat side-by-side in the directors’ box watching.
Yet the focus of post-match attention will be on the man who did not start.
What now for England captain Wayne Rooney?
Interesting to see the differing celebrations in the Old Trafford directors’ box.
To the left of the exit, Sir Alex Ferguson, Nemanja Vidic and former chief executive David Gill were amongst those on their feet.
To the right, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Morgan Schneiderlin, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial remained seated and limited themselves to polite applause.
Manchester United 1-0 Leicester
Manchester United have come to life! This would have been one of the goals of the season as Paul Pogba lifts a delicate chip over the top, perfect weight, Zlatan Ibrahinmovic moves on to it, chests and volleys in one lovely movement and smashes his shot only just over the crossbar!
What a bit of play…

Great vision from Ibrahimovic, placing the ball across the goal with the outside of his boot. But Rashford’s first touch was poor and that’s why he ended up blazing it so high and wide.
The goal has given United such a boost in confidence, and the crowd are now right behind them.
Manchester United 1-0 Leicester
Marcus Rashford is suddenly omnipresent, chesting down a cross and then hooking a shot well over the top. He is at the heart of everything.
Leicester instantly force a corner of their own but it’s well cleared by this United team of giants and a counter is on…
Zlatan Ibrahimovic looks up and picks out Marcus Rashford on the right, he has so much pace to get there but he can only slash his shot well wide.
Good chance!

That was probably the only way United were going to score as they’ve created nothing else.
But credit to Chris Smalling, who was able to focus on the ball and did the right thing, heading it firmly and down. The keeper tried to get it pushed round the post but couldn’t get enough on it.
GOAL – Manchester United 1-0 Leicester
Chris Smalling
It didn’t look like coming but it’s the Manchester United captain who opens the scoring after all. Daley Blind whips in a corner and Chris Smalling heads down, hard and low, which Ron-Robert Zieler can only push into the net. Soft.

Glory days, yeah they’ll pass you by, glory days…
