Mariah Carey and James Packer prenup demanded return of jewellery if couple split- report

Mariah Carey refused to sign a prenuptial agreement that allegedly demanded the return of jewellery she received during her relationship with James Packer.

According to TMZ, a chain of emails from mid-February (16) seen by the website’s editors details the back and forth negotiations between Mariah and James’ teams over the prenup.

The Heartbreaker singer and the Australian billionaire reportedly split last month (Oct16) and the singer’s representative has confirmed the couple is taking some time apart, and admitted the singer has not seen James since cutting short a vacation in Greece in September (16).

TMZ reports James’ team of lawyers sent the singer’s team a 100 page document outlining the specifics of the prenup. And among the conditions outlined, one clause allegedly demanded the return of any jewellery James gave Mariah during the relationship if they split unless she had also received a signed note from him stating it was a gift.

According to editors at the news outlet, James was unhappy that his legal team were not moving fast enough to nail down the prenup so he could wed the We Belong Together hitmaker in Bora Bora in March (16), despite the fact that her divorce from former husband Nick Cannon had still not been finalised.

Billionaire businessman James reportedly fired off a response to his team after they allegedly told him they could not get the prenup signed by March. He wrote: “I don’t know who’s working for who because there are a lot of names I haven’t heard before on this email chain. The people who work for me — message — do as I say or f**k off. I want to get married on March 1st. James.”

At the time the email was sent, Mariah was in full wedding prep mode, and reportedly had already bought her dress, booked the flowers and all the flights for the guests were secured. The couple planned to go through a “commitment ceremony” if Mariah had not secured her divorce by the proposed date.

TMZ also report the draft prenup allegedly stated Mariah would get a payoff of $50 million (£40 million) if the couple broke up, the same amount the news outlet claims she is demanding from her ex-fiance.
