Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has sponsored a mass wedding for 1,500 indigenous couples at the Emir Sunusi ll Mosque in Kofar Kudu in Kano.
The ceremony, held on August 7, 2025,’ was conducted under the leadership of Mallam Aminu Daurawa, Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board.
As part of the support package, the government presented N200,000 each to every bride and groom, giving each newly married couple a total of N400,000 as part of start-up capital for small businesses.
The government also provided essential household items, including furniture, foodstuffs and other necessities, to help the couples begin their married lives.
The initiative is aimed at supporting families, promoting economic independence and strengthening social stability across the state.
Meanwhile, Governor Abba Yusuf disclosed that it committed N1.5 billion to the successful conduct of the mass wedding under its Auren Gata mass wedding programme, urging the couples to exercise patience and uphold justice, fairness, mutual respect and peaceful co-existence in the homes.
Governor Abba Yusuf made the disclosure during a reception and distribution of furniture and other support items to the newly married couples.
The governor said the expenditure covered medical screening for all the brides and grooms, aimed at safeguarding their health and that if their future children.
According to the governor, each couple received N100,000 as dowry and an additional N100,000 capital grant to enable them to start small businesses and become economically self-reliant.
He added that the government also provided household furniture and essential items, including beds and mattresses, as well as food items and other commodities to cushion the economic challenges the couples might face during the early stages of their marriages, while reminding them that marriage is an act of worship and advised them to build their homes in accordance with the teaching of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad.
