Militants divided over Effiong Akwa’s appointment as Sole Administrator of NDDC

The continuous attack on the appointment Barr Effiong Akwa as the Sole Administrator of NDDC particuarly by some Ijaw youths have attracted the anger Oro youths who threatened to attack Ijaw’s interests should the development persists.

The latest of such threats comes from a former militant, Victor Onobo who expressed the determination of Oro youths to defend Effiong Akwa’s appointment.

Writing on his Facebook page, “My New Message to our Ijaw Brothers”, Onobo expressed disappoinment with the “wicked agitation against” Effiong Akwa, an Oro son despite the fact that Oro has been supportive of Ijaw interests and those of Niger Delta.

“I have quietly watched the childish manner our Ijaw brothers are putting knife in our unity since the appointment of Barr. Effiong Akwa a bonafide Oro son and a fellow Senior citizen of Niger Delta as the Sole Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission by a Fulani Man, President Mohammadu Buhari. It’s no longer funny.

“In 2004 I fought along other Ijaw guys in the struggle for the emancipation of the Niger Delta people, yet those of us from Oro(even having been born and bred in Rivers State) were shortchanged in the amnesty program while the rogues in Ijaw who claim they were freedom fighters became sudden billionaires in dollars, yet we did not envy them. Ijaw man became the President of Nigeria we supported them, six years of his governance nothing was done in Oro. Ijaw man is the Petroleum Minister, Oro has none. Content board is permanently sited in Ijaw we envy them not.

“Please note that even if you combine the ijaws of Akwa Ibom State, Bayelsa State, Delta State and Rivers State they do not produce as much oil as we do in the small Island of Oro nation. As a registered member of the Movement For Survival of Ogoni People (Mosop) and a proud mentee of Late Dr. Ken Saro Wiwa, I know the damages the Ijaws have caused fellow Niger Deltans due to greed and selfishness and this must stop with immediate effect.

“However any further attempt to discredit Oro people in continuation of their deliberate, wicked, blatant and sustain marginalization through subtle display of open tribalism and ethnicity shall be resisted.

“Oro is the most marginalized oil producing community in Nigeria, Oro is the most cheated of all minorities in Nigeria even in Akwa Ibom State.

“Leave Effiong Akwa alone, that office is not even enough to heal the damage done to us by the Nigerian state.

“This is not a threat, we will defend our own with everything, if the wicked agitation against his appointment is not stopped with immediate effect.

“Oro deserves a fair deal. Oro is Niger Delta,” the message read.
