A journalist, Abubakar Muhammad has said that Nigerians should expect network service disruption from tomorrow Tuesday July 30 in the country.

He said that indications has suggested that the federal government is putting everything in place to stop or minimize the effect of the planned August 1 protest in the country.

Mr. Muhammad, a journalist with over seven years experience, is also a political scientist.

He explained that disruption of network services will affect communication and mobilization of people during such incident.

He added that social media in particular is a relevant tool for mobilizing people, promoting events and instigating public actions.

Recalling historical events, he said that records has shown that online platforms are key in mobilizing protest or any public outcry in the world and it needed network services to be done effectively.

‘Online platforms are key in mobilizing people to engage in any particular action or objective.

‘We have seen how an entire revolution was organized through social media in Tunisia and Egypt during the Arab Spring in 2012, and it led to the toppling of governments in power,’ he said.

He added that similar incidents had happened in other African States and around the world in the past.

To reduce the effect of the August 1, nationwide protest, he noted that the government will likely use the disruption of network services as a tactics.
