IMO: Imo State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has inducted Mrs. Chizoba Opara as the new Chairperson. Mrs Opara hails from Enugu State Nigeria and got married to an academia Imolite who hails from Nekede Owerri West Local government area , Dr Onyekachi Opara of Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri Imo state Nigeria.
Onyinyechi Nwankwo reports from Owerri that new leadership has emerged in the Imo State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) as Mrs. Chizoba Opara of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria assumed office as Chairperson following a formal handover at the association’s congress.
The transition took place on Thursday, April 30, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Press Centre in New Owerri, where members gathered for the congress that marked the end of one administration and the beginning of another.
Opara, a Controller of News with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria and former Vice Chairperson to Dorothy Nnaji, stepped into the role following Nnaji’s appointment as Permanent Secretary.
In her remarks during the handover, Nnaji expressed appreciation to members for their support and cooperation throughout her tenure, noting that their collective commitment contributed significantly to the progress recorded by the association.
She encouraged members to extend the same level of unity and cooperation to the new leadership, emphasising that sustained collaboration remains essential to the continued growth of the association.
Nnaji also acknowledged the support of Hope Uzodinma, Governor of Imo State, for his contributions to the association during her time in office.
Taking over the reins, Opara commended her predecessor for what she described as impactful leadership, pointing to key achievements recorded under her administration, including improvements in infrastructure and member welfare.
She pledged to consolidate on the gains already made, assuring members of her commitment to strengthening the association and advancing its core objectives.
Opara further called for unity among members, stressing the need for collective effort in promoting professionalism and enhancing the welfare of women journalists in the state.
The transition was met with goodwill from members, who offered prayers and expressed confidence in the new leadership while wishing Nnaji success in her new assignment.
This development is a call to service aimed at upgrading the leadership of NAWOJ while finding collective collaboration to unite the members of the union to become more stronger than ever. The outgoing NAWOJ chairperson Dr Dora Nnaji expressed satisfaction for her successor’s emergence Opara while charging her for more productivity.
