NBS says Nigeria’s road taxes increased by 63% as citizens pay N40 billion to state govt

The National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, says Nigerians pay about 63 percent more as road taxes to State Government in 2023, highlighting the growing importance of road taxes in state level-finances.

The report, however, showed that the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, did not collect any road tax revenue in 2023.

Açcording to the recently published Internally Generated Revenue report by NBS, the road taxes paid by Nigerians rose to N40.14 billion in 2023.

A breakdown of taxes collected showed that Lagos State topped all states with N16.74 billion in road tax revenue for 2023, and Ebonyi State recorded a remarkable 3,804.32 percent increase among others.
