The Nigerian Communications Commission has urged states and local government councils to reduce taxes on telecom companies, warning that excessive taxation could hinder industry growth.
NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Aminu Wada Maida, highlighted the challenges posed by high taxes, including a proposed five per cent excise duty on telecommunication services in the 2024-2026 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework.
Maida emphasised the need to attract foreign investments in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive.
He noted that the NCC plans a nationwide advocacy to address issues like Right of Way charges and multiple taxes, aiming to create a conducive environment for telecom operators.
