In response to the recent flooding in Borno State, which has severely impacted the lives of many families, and the education of children, two non-governmental organizations have stepped in to support affected communities.

The support is particularly aimed at elevating the education sector in the state.

To that effect, the NGOs, Center for Advocacy, Transparency & Accountability Initiative (CATAI) and Unique Care and Support Foundation (CASFOD), donated N10m to Borno’s Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation.

Abubakar Sadiq Muazu and Benjamin John, heads of CATAI and CASFOD respectfully, presented the cheque to the ministry in an event on Tuesday.

According to the donors, the donation aims to provide scholastic materials for schools in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere local government area of the state.

The support also sets to target over 400,000 children affected by the floods.

It has been noted that the flood has displaced families, making it difficult for them to send their children back to school due to limited access to educational materials.

In addition to the financial contribution, CATAI and CASFOD are donating 700 school bags and books to ensure the retention of students across various locations.

While presenting the cheque, Mr. Muazu emphasized his commitment to ensuring that children have access to quality education, even in emergencies, and applauded the Borno State Government for its efforts in supporting school resumption.

He specifically commended the Commissioner for Education, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, for his leadership in ensuring that children can return to school and avoid disruptions to their education.

“We will continue to support the good people of Borno State in bouncing back better ,” Muazu stated, reaffirming the NGOs’ commitment to aiding the state’s recovery from the flooding and ensuring that education is not left behind.

This contribution is expected to play a vital role in helping children resume their education and mitigating the long-term effects of the recent floods on education in Borno State.
