Nigerian-born Beninese International, Razaq Omotoyossi, has died at the age of 39.
His death was announced on Tuesday August 19, 2025, by authorities in Benin Republic.
Reacting, his former club, Helsingborgs IF wrote on X:
“Helsingborgs IF is mourning.
“We have been informed that our former player Razak Omotoyossi has passed away at the age of 39,our thoughts are with his family and loves ones”
Omotoyossi, who was born in Nigeria but represented Benin on International stage, rose to become one of the country’s most celebrated football icons

He earns 55 caps and score 21 goals for the Squirrels, ranking among all-time top scorers.
The former FC Metz and Blackpool trialist etched his name into African football history during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, netting all four goals in Benin 4-1 triumph over Togo and finished as joint top scorer of the campaign alongside Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o.
His professional journey took him to Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.
