OWERRI, IMO STATE — Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has approved ₦100 million in support of an ongoing building project at the Arsenal Golf and Country Club in Obinze, Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.
The intervention was announced during the 2026 Governor’s Cup Tournament of the Arsenal Golf and Country Club, where Uzodimma joined other golfers to compete, interact and celebrate the sport.
The three-day tournament, held from September 10 to 12, 2026, brought together golfers, club members, professionals, dignitaries and sports enthusiasts for competitive golf and social networking.
The ₦100 million commitment is expected to assist the club in advancing the completion of its ongoing building project and strengthening its facilities for sporting and related activities.
Chairman of the tournament organising committee, Sir Ernest Nwapa, said the governor’s intervention followed his inspection of the project and his concern about the pace of its completion.
The tournament was held under the theme, “Swing and Discover the New Imo,” with activities beginning on September 10 with a competition involving caddies and course workers before the professional invitational tournament and other categories.
Uzodinma said his participation gave him an opportunity to test his golfing skills while connecting with fellow golfers and experiencing the camaraderie associated with the sport.
He said golf provides opportunities not only for competition and recreation but also for building relationships and promoting interaction among people from different backgrounds.
The governor expressed appreciation for the experience and said he looked forward to more opportunities to participate in, learn from and contribute to the development of golf.
The ₦100 million intervention adds a major development dimension to the tournament as the Arsenal Golf and Country Club in Obinze continues to position itself as a venue for sporting competition, networking and social activities in Imo State.
