Nigeria Joins BRICS as a Partner Country

The Brazilian government, currently presiding over the BRICS alliance, has officially announced Nigeria’s admission as a partner country.

This decision was made on January 17, 2025, positioning Nigeria among an exclusive group of nations shaping the future of global cooperation.

Nigeria joins Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan in the newly established category as the ninth partner country.

The framework for this partnership was introduced during the 16th BRICS Summit held in Kazan, Russia, in October 2024.

Nigeria’s inclusion is a recognition of its strategic importance as Africa’s largest economy and the world’s sixth-most populous nation.

This partnership offers Nigeria a unique platform to collaborate on trade, investment, and sustainable development while leveraging opportunities within the BRICS framework.

BRICS, originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, continues to expand its reach by incorporating like-minded nations with shared economic and geopolitical goals.
