The Nigerian Army has arrested one of its personnel after a video allegedly showed him begging a TikTok influencer for financial assistance and saying he had not eaten while wearing his military uniform, an act authorities say violates military ethics and discipline.
The soldier was identified after the the video curculated widely on social media, prompting an internal investigation. Military authorities reportedly traced and detained him for questioning over his conduct.
The soldier, who is said to be attached to the Nigerian Army Aviation Hangar in Minna, Niger State, was allegedly taken into military custody after the video went viral.
During the live session, he claimed he had served in the Army for five years and appeal for financial help. Army authorities have since confirmed the soldier’s arrest, saying disciplinary procedures have commenced.
They reiterated that personnel are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and warned that conduct capable of bringing the Nigerian Army into dispute would not be tolerated.
