The Nigerian military has launched a significant operation against terrorist groups around Birchi Hill, a community in Katsina State, destroying several camps.
This was disclosed on Thursday by Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, coordinator, Joint Media Coordination Centre, Operation Fansan Yamma.
The operation he said was a response to recent attacks on local communities in Danmusa, Safana, and Kankara.
He explained that the military used a combination of ground and air attacks to target the terrorists, hitting several locations and eventually overpowering them after a fierce firefight.
According to Abdullahi, the operation resulted in significant casualties on the side of the terrorists, noting that a notorious terrorists’ leaders, Manore and Dogo Nahalle were killed.
He added that the military also dismantled several terrorist camps in the area, weakening their ability to operate.
“This is a major blow to the terrorist groups, who had been constantly attacking communities in Maidabino, Yantumaki, Mara, and other parts of Danmusa and Safana, leading to many residents being displaced,” the statement said.
While urging for continues public support and cooperation in dealing with terrorists, the military said the act of harboring criminal elements is sabotaging military efforts.
The military also pledged its commitments in restoring peace and security to affected communities.
