The industrial town of Nnewi, Anambra State yesterday rolled out drums to celebrate her New Yam festival.
The Chairman of Nnewi town union, Sir Ugochukwu Udemezue in his welcome address said that his administration is committed to improving the festival in line with the prevailing human and environmental transformation, advancement and civilization taking place in the community. Udemezue urged all residents to imbibe the sense of peaceful coexistence and act as watchdog for their neighbours.
He congratulated the Nnewi indigenes in the USA for successfully conducting a convention which held in July.
The PPA Anambra governorship candidate, Mr Godwin Ezeemo at the occasion said that he would improve on the cultural values and base of the state if he makes it to government house so as to make them international events.
The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano represented by his Senior Special Adviser on budget and financial strategy, Hon Melie Onyejepu expressed the commitment of his administration to improving the lot of the people in the state.
The traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe Dr KON Orizu III at the occasion prayed for peace and stability of the town, Anambra State and Nigeria.
The new yam festival would wind up on Saturday.
