NNPC Ltd Defends Integrity: ‘No Economic Sabotage Here

The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Mr. Mele Kyari, firmly asserted that the company has adhered to all laws governing its operations and should not be implicated in any allegations of economic sabotage.

Speaking before the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee investigating alleged economic sabotage in the Nigerian Petroleum Industry, Kyari emphasized the transparent nature of the refining business. “Refining is straightforward. You must secure your feedstock and find a market. We have not sabotaged any domestic refinery,” he stated.

Kyari clarified that the law on domestic crude oil supply and local refineries is explicit but also highlighted the necessity for willing buyers and sellers. Addressing claims of importing sub-standard products, he stressed that NNPC Limited has no involvement, as regulatory agencies ensure only quality products enter the country.

Supporting transparency, Kyari proposed that the Committee’s sessions be broadcast live on national television to avoid public misinformation. He acknowledged the infrastructure capable of producing two million barrels of crude daily, yet identified crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and lack of upstream investment as major challenges.

Kyari proudly noted NNPC Limited’s transformation from a loss-making entity to a profitable organization, owned by over 200 million Nigerians. He assured the Committee of NNPC’s full cooperation in the investigation and reaffirmed the company’s dedication to Nigeria’s progress, acting in accordance with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), the Company & Allied Matters Act (CAMA), and other relevant laws.

“We are faithful, loyal, and committed to this nation’s progress. We are not in breach of any rules,” Kyari concluded.
