The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited) says ongoing reforms in the oil and gas sector have boosted Nigeria’s crude oil production by 600,000 barrels per day, raising output from approximately 1.2 million to 1.8 million barrels per day.Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, disclosed this on Tuesday at the 2026 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) in the United Arab Emirates.Speaking during an Energy Talk titled “Nigeria’s Reform Agenda: Competing for Energy Capital,” Ojulari attributed the production increase to the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021, improved investment conditions, better investment decisions and stronger collaboration between NNPC and its industry partners.

He said the company is targeting crude oil production of 2 million barrels per day by 2027, with renewed emphasis on infrastructure maintenance, protecting existing production capacity, optimising producing assets and accelerating new projects.“The figure of 1.8 million barrels per day is a stage in a journey towards our objective. We are concentrating on the basics, which are maintaining our infrastructure, protecting base operations and executing the projects that will take production higher,” he stated. On domestic energy development,

Ojulari highlighted the impact of the Federal Government’s compressed natural gas (CNG) initiative, revealing that more than 400 CNG conversion centres have been established, while over 1,000 trucks transporting petroleum products now operate on CNG.He also announced that the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) gas pipeline was completed in August 2026, while the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline is expected to deliver gas to Abuja before the end of the year to support electricity generation, data centres and industrial development.

On Nigeria’s gas ambitions, the NNPC boss disclosed that the company is targeting production of 10 billion standard cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) by 2027 and 12 Bcf/d by 2030, supported by expanding domestic consumption and international export opportunities. He further revealed that commercial agreements covering approximately $20 billion in investments have been concluded, citing major projects such as TotalEnergies’ Ubeta, Shell’s Bonga South-West and Eni’s Zabazaba developments.Ojulari also disclosed that NNPC is strengthening strategic partnerships with international investors, including ADNOC and Chinese investors in Nigeria’s refinery sector, while working with global service companies to expand local industry capacity.

On regional energy cooperation, he said participating countries have aligned and signed the necessary agreements for the proposed Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline, while Nigeria, Algeria and Niger are advancing cooperation on the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline.Reaffirming NNPC’s commitment to transparency, accountability and operational efficiency, Ojulari maintained that the company’s performance would ultimately be measured by tangible results rather than promises.“Our track record will be judged by what is done and not by what is said,” he declared. The 2026 ADIPEC, hosted by ADNOC under the patronage of UAE President,

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, brought together more than 239,000 participants from over 170 countries, including energy ministers, industry executives, investors and technology leaders, to deliberate on global energy security, investment and supply.
