In a thrilling showdown at Adoke Amasiemeka Stadium in Rivers State, El-Kanemi Warriors of Borno, struggled to extend their unbeaten run in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) by holding league leaders, Rivers United to a draw.
Elka were reduced to ten men after a red card booking on Gimba Ajiji while their coach, AbdulAziz Munnir was also also booked and sidelined by the match official.
With the visitors’ Samaila Bello opener in the 31st minute and Rivers United equalizer through Taofeel Olaniyi in 33th, both sides couldn’t net a winning goal.
However, both Warriors and United remains unbeaten in the league after the weekend encounter.
In hi remarks after the match, Coach Munnir said they had a fantastic game despite the red card.
“The boys showed great character, and while we wanted the win, we’re proud of their performance,” he added, as quoted by the club on its official Facebook handle.
While the seats at fifth spot in the league, Kanem Warriors will hope to secure their first home win when they host Katsina United on their next fixture.
