Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has emerged as major doubt for 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) following fresh concern over ankle and injuries sustained during Nigeria’s World Cup playoff campaign.
The 29-year-old had not featured for Chippa United, South Africa since returning from international duty.
Chippa United head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi admitted uncertainty over Nwabali’s fitness, noting that while the goalkeeper remains optimistic, the medical situation suggests a longer recovery period may be required.
His absence would-be a major blow for Nigeria as preparation intensify.
Nwabali was one of Nigeria’s standout performers at AFCON 2023 in Cote d’Ivoire and the recently concluded World Cup qualifiers, where he cemented his role as first-choice goalkeeper.
His potential unavailability for AFCON 2025 raises significant concerns for the Super Eagles’ defensive stability.
