The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is considering a major reform of its registration process that could allow prospective Corps Members (PCMs) to complete their registration from home beginning in 2027.
The proposed change is aimed at decentralising the NYSC registration process and reducing the need for eligible graduates to visit cybercafes or other registration centres to complete the exercise.
The development was disclosed by the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, in Abuja on Monday during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Pre-Orientation Workshop.
According to reports, the proposed reform would enable PCMs carry out the registration process remotely, making it more convenient and accessible to graduates across the county.
The move is also expected to address some of the logistical challenges faced by foreign-trained Nigerians graduates, who often have additional requirements and verification procedures during the mobilisation process.
The NYSC currently operates an online registration system through its official portal. However, the scheme’s existing requirements include biometric capturing, identity verification and, for foreign-trained graduates, physical verification of academic credentials an travel documents where applicable.
The NYSC stated that prospective corps.members.must register personally and that registration by proxy.is not permitted because biometric information is required for verification.
Under the proposed decentralised system, the NYSC intends to make the process more convenient while maintaining the necessary verification and security measures.
The planned reform is therefore expected to represent a significant shift in how prospective corps members interact with the NYSC registration system if fully implemented in 2027.
However, the home-based registration is currently reported as a planned change for 2027 and should not be interpreted as an immediate replacement of all existing NYSC registration and verification requirements, PCMs should continue to follow official NYSC instructions until new guidelines are formally announced.
