A concerned Nigerian group has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria and the National Assembly to imminently make a law that warrants graduating students to do their mandatory national service, NYSC in their states of origin to avoid being posted to dangerous parts of the country.

In a chat with 9News Nigeria Abuja correspondent, Alhaji Sagir Sulaiman who represented the group said they are calling on the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, including the Presidency and the National Assembly to issue an order to the NYSC not to post students outside their states of origin for the mandatory national service because of kidnapping, killings, and indexes of insecurity nationwide.

“Graduating students should be allowed to serve in their states of origin or state of residence. Let us save lives,” Alhaji Sagir Sulaiman said.

The group cited the alarming rate of insecurity in the country that has made the citizens vulnerable to killings and kidnappings by bandits and other criminal elements.

Therefore, they called on the Federal Government to send a bill to the National Assembly and enact a law that allows graduates to do their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in their states of origin.

If this law is put in place, The National Youth Service Corps will stop posting graduates to do their Mandatory National Service in states outside their state of origin or residence. The Youths will have good options to either serve in their states of origin or their states of residence. This will help to save the students from being exposed to insecurity victimisations that have hitherto led to the death of many youths.
