Obeche And Umuinyagbo Inyi Community In Delta State, Signs Peace Accord, We Are Grateful To Governor, Says Hon Dikadi Lucky

Following a meeting held on December 21st, 2023, between Obeche Inyi and Umuinyagbo Inyi quarters in Asaba, regarding the ongoing communal crises between the two communities since 2016, a resolution was reached yesterday 24th January 2024.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor, along with a high-level delegation from the government, visited Inyi town in Ndokwa East Local government area of Delta to address the crises.

Hon. Lucky Dikadi Chukwunedum, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Development and an indigene of the community, warmly welcomed the government team. The Inyi peace committee also received the government team.

During the visit, the government team, accompanied by the chairman and secretary of the Inyi Peace Committee, and Chief David Nwachukwu the immediate past PG of the Inyi community, respectively, as well as Hon. Lucky Dikadi, took a tour of the community. They highlighted the challenges faced in resolving the crises and the efforts made thus far.

The government team thoroughly assessed the causes and damages caused by the crises and proposed solutions. They also demonstrated their commitment and willingness to assist the victims and bring a lasting solution to the crises. As a result, both quarters in the community agreed to lay down their weapons and embrace lasting peace, leading to the signing of a peace pact.

At the end of the meeting, Dikadi expressed his satisfaction and gratitude to the Delta State Governor, His Excellency Rt. Sheriff Oborevwori for his intervention in resolving the crises. He commended the governor for being a leader who does not discriminate and is dedicated to inclusivity.

The peace pact was signed by Barrister Chukwudi Olise and Mr. Nwafili on behalf of the Obeche quarter, and also Tuya Friday and Omordi Stephen on behalf of the Umuinyagbo quarters and witnessed by elders and youths from both communities.
