The alumni body of Ogun State Institute of Technology Igbesa, led by Mr. Sholotan Kazeem, distributed food palliatives worth over 800,000 Naira to the students in the institution.
The chairman made it known that the inspiration behind organizing such an initiative is due to the economic challenges faced by many individuals, including students, and emphasized the Alumni’s commitment to supporting those in need.
He explained that the decision to allocate funds from the alumni purse for purchasing and distributing food stemmed from a desire to alleviate the financial burden on students, particularly amidst rising food costs.
He made it known that, despite the goodwill gesture, concerns were raised by some students, particularly those observing Ramadan, questioning the timing and inclusivity of the initiative.
Mr. Kazeem clarified that the distribution was not exclusive to any particular group and emphasized the intention to assist all students in need.
He further elaborated on the distribution process, mentioning the allocation of palliatives to student organizations for equitable distribution among their members.
When asked about the challenges encountered during the planning and execution of the event, Mr. Kazeem acknowledged the limitations imposed by available funds but stressed the alumni’s determination to continue supporting students whenever possible, regardless of the obstacles faced.
Regarding the frequency of such initiatives in the future, Mr. Kazeem expressed optimism for economic recovery but affirmed the alumni’s commitment to bridging gaps in support as long as resources permit.
He also highlighted various past projects undertaken by the alumni, including the provision of infrastructure such as boreholes, scaffolding, and recreational facilities, as well as medical interventions for students in need.
In his words, he appreciated the Rector of the institute, Dr Abiodun Babatunde Oluseye and management team for giving a smooth environment to the Alumni body to discharge their duties in the institution. He further, acknowledged the support of his executives who have also been supporting good vision for the institution.
The interview shed light on the altruistic efforts of the alumni body and their dedication to fostering a supportive community within the institute as students become more aware of these initiatives, it is hoped that such acts of kindness will continue to inspire and benefit the entire student body.
The Chairman stressed that, cash of 5,000 Naira palliatives was sent to some of alumni members that are not within Igbesa.
