The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Sen. Azuta Mbata, has inaugurated the 2025 Constitution Review Committee (CRC) to review the current constitution of the apex-Igbo socio-cultural organisation.
The National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Dr Ezechi Chukwu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Enugu on Monday.
Chukwu named members of the committee to include Chief Anthony Idigbe (SAN) as Chairman, Chief Dili Biosah, Anozie Obi, Chief Ray Nkemdirim, C.J. Okori-Akirika, Dr Dozie Nwosu, and Dr Boniface Chima.
Others were Chief David Nwachukwu, Prof. Osita Ogbu, Prof. Fabian Onah, Henry Akunebu, SAN, Mr Calistus Ekenze, Mr Ndubuisi Agumagu, Dr John Okolie, Prof. Chinwe Obaji, Dr Grace Okudo, Mr Okeagu Ogadah and
Chizoba Iheka.
He stated that Mbata expressed the importance of effective constitution as a necessary guide for optimal administration of the body, and charged the committee to consider the wellbeing of the Igbos in its assignment.
Chukwu also stated that Mbata looked forward to strengthening the Ohanaeze constitution to enhance transparency, credibility, trust, strong grassroots participation, unity and general wellbeing of Igbo people, irrespective of their location.
He added that the Ohanaeze leader also charged the committee to consider, as paramount, the oneness and common good of the Igbo nation, in the discharge of its duty.
He stated that the committee had one month to submit its interim report, prior to its presentation to the Imeobi organs of the organisation.
He quoted the chairman of the committee as thanking Ohanaeze and the president-general, in particular, for finding the members worthy for the onerous task.
“He assured the president-general that his team shall do its best to give Ohanaeze the constitution it deserves,” Chukwu stated.
